About Me:

My name is Mia and I have owned, been around and had a passion for animals my whole life, especially horses and dogs.

This passion, inevitably, lead to my growing interesting into ways we can support and improve our animals lives. This also sparked a love for learning and a desire for knowledge in order to make informed decisions for my animals, and to support others.

I knew I didn’t want to be a vet, the whole surgery side wasn’t for me, which lead me down a path of complementary therapies which work alongside veterinary medicine for prevention and management.

Qualifications:

In 2024 I graduated from university with a BSc (Hons) in Equine Therapy and Rehabilitation. During this period we additionally learned about hydrotherapy, with the use of a water treadmill and salt water spa, as well as conducted two rock tape CPD courses.

In 2022 I completed my Level 4 Diploma in Applied Herbal Choices for Animals. Since then I have spent the years researching and expanding my knowledge. To assist in this I partake in a weekly and monthly CPD platform to constantly gain more information to support my practice and to support you.

Lilly:

My biggest teacher

I have owned Lilly for 11 years, since she was four, and she has been my greatest teacher. She’s a Welsh X, which meant in those very early years, she was clear on what she did and very such so what she DIDN’T want to do. We had lots of fun in her younger years, but as life came around I had less time to spend riding, which she didn’t mind as she way quite happy living out and just spending general time together… We ended up having to move yards, and ended up at a yard with great facilities but also restricted turnout. In Spring of 2022, Lilly came very close to having a laminitic episode and we were worried she had developed equine metabolic disorder (EMS). Luckily, we very quickly got it under control with diet and exercise management combined with my new found knowledge of zoopharmacognosy. Throughout her recovery and management plan I was offering herbs to enable her to support herself and restore balance within her body (which I explain in detail in the herbal membership). The following year, we had her weight under control, her work load had increased and she was still on a restricted diet. She ended up having a minor tying up episode (something which I explain in the herbal membership). Ultimately, we hade the decision to move to a yard without restricted turn out, and now we struggle very little and just focus on managing her weight in the Spring and Summer months.

Throughout these 11 years with Lilly I have learnt so much from her. During her early years she taught me the true definition of patience, and the understanding that we must listen to what they are trying to communicate with us and work with them to overcome challenges. In our more recent years together I have gained an intimate knowledge and perspective on metabolic disorders, and how it is possible to over restrict the diet. This is something that has inspired me to one day pursue qualifications in equine nutrition…

Our First Ride

Our first ride

Tigra:

My Biggest Challenge

Tigra is a 21-year-old Holsteiner ex-showjumper that my mum and I have owned for six years. Despite my initial doubts, we fell in love with her and brought her home, though her showjumping career ended due to a sesamoid ligament injury in 2015. She was initially difficult to ride, often showing signs of discomfort, which we later discovered was due to osteoarthritis in her neck. This led to her retirement from riding, and she now enjoys occasional groundwork.

Tigra has been a challenge due to her high-strung, anxious nature, which was new to me as my experience had been with more stubborn, native breeds. Her difficult past, including harsh training and treatment, became clear after an animal communicator’s visit. This understanding shifted how we approached her care, especially using essential oils to help her release anxiety and trauma. Working with Tigra has taught me profound lessons in patience and equine behaviour.

Mums first ride.
